Music videos came into popularity when MTV created their channel and promoted not just listening to music but to watch it as well. Notable bands that used this new music video technique include the Beetles and Queen. The music video allowed for artist to express other techniques they had.

There are some major strategies involved into making a music video a success. such as controversies, entertainment, thought provocation, demographic centred.

Controversies: this involves using subjects which are not to be taken lightly to bring up a point the the artists think that are not receiving the correct attention such as Avicii with their video on human trafficking, For a Better day.

Entertainment: this is all about giving the audience an experience that they will enjoy and will make them want to buy the album or single.  

Thought Provocation: this gives the listener something to think over while they also enjoy the music.

Demographic Centred: this is were a song might have been made to meet the demands of the crowds and help drive sales.
